Common symptoms of ECU failure
Some common symptoms of ECU
failure range from check engine light, injector trouble, erratic start,
stalling, running rough, no start at all. Often this is misdiagnosed as
distributor, idle speed control motor, etc., if you think you have ECU trouble,
often you can pull the computer yourself and inspect it for visible damage, also
a strange smell usually accompanies the breakdown.
If
you are not sure, you can
send it in and have it checked at a $25.00 charge. The extremely high failure
rate with these units, is due to weak components from the factory. After your
unit is rebuilt, the replacement parts will hold up beyond where the others give
way, and your computer will likely last the life of your car.
