General Product Information: Import Beds
In
order to better describe what our Pick Up Box for imports
looks like and to define the various options available we
took a few pictures. Hopefully these will give you a
better idea of how the bed looks in various
configurations.
| The
Picture above shows a basic six foot Pick Up Box
as assembled for a standard Toyota or Nissan
installation. The bed includes the tailgate,
mounting hardware and the gas filler neck bracket
. Primer painting is an optional extra. Normally
the bed is fitted and installed on the truck, and
then driven to a paint shop, where it is quick to
remove for painting off the truck. Our normal
finishing procedure, after completing welding, is
to remove any minor weld spatter, then we use
Osborn zinc rich "Cold galvanizing
compound" sprayed on all the welds and
joints. This particular bed has been "powder
coat" primed with a zinc rich primer.
The second coat can be powder coat or standard
enamel. This is quick and cheap to apply because
no additional cleaning is required.
Companies
which can do this size of powder coat paint job
are not that common, particularly in rural
locations. An ordinary automotive paint shop can
do the work as well, both primer and finish coats.

The
above two pictures show the basic box with the addition of
standard tail lights and with bolt on standard steel lower
body panels. The standard tail lights include the upper
red, stop, turn, park and emergency flasher combination
light. The lower red unit is a red reflector with a build
in back-up light. Finally there is the red side
marker/reflector as shown.
The
lower body panels are 16 gauge steel. They can be bolted
on as shown or welded on for a seamless look. Painting is
the same process as the rest of the bed. If bolting on, a
Silicone sealant is used in the joint at the time of
installation to exclude water and prevent rust problems.
By the
way, the bed actually looks quite good even without panels

The
next picture, above, shows the alternate light
arrangement. An amber turn signal light replaces the red
back-up/reflector unit. Note: This is not a legal
arrangement as shown. This can only be used if alternative
backup lights are installed, such as bumper mounts. A rear
facing reflector is also required to meet Federal
regulations.
All
the lights used are standard "Trucklite" brand
units, available at any auto electric supply. They are
also available as LED units. Very expensive, but a very
distinctive look.

The
two pictures above show the same unit with optional
Stainless Steel Lower Body Panels. Very attractive and
totally rust resistant. Also shown, a rubber sleeve over
the tailgate chain.
The
above hopefully gives you a little better idea how a Pick Up
Box can be fitted out. We also have a "Hummer"
style bumper and a headache rack/window guard. See the
import page for these options as installed.
